Inventuring, the rite of passage for any student of Inventure Academy, kicked off with the well-rested students returning to school, refreshed, invigorated, and eager to start the new academic year. The colourful throng of students once more filled the building with life, with old friends sharing stories of their vacations with each other, and new classmates being warmly welcomed into the Inventure family. After enjoying a period with their Class Teacher, settling down into new classrooms and receiving instructions for the day, the students gathered for a welcome assembly.
Soon after, the group dispersed eagerly to begin their Choice Time activities. With a vast array of options to choose from, ranging from favourites like Art, Dance, Music and Photography, to fresh alternatives including Public Speaking, Conflict Resolution and even Slam Poetry (which a few students confused with pottery!), the students had a hard time picking what appealed to them most. Pratik Sir, who is conducting the Slam Poetry Choice Time, said that quite a few students, particularly in the higher grades, had expressed interest in slam poetry recently. Simone, from Grade 7, shared that she writes a lot to express herself and is excited as she feels that it is the perfect platform for others to know and enjoy her poems.
Project Time is the other busy part of Inventuring, with each grade assigned a few projects to work on. The students have been enjoying the stimulating projects, which include building a treehouse and shoe racks, tie dye, mural painting and several more. Kishen Sir began an extremely important workshop on street survival skills for Grades 11 and 12, which balances the fun of Inventuring with the gravity of the importance of self-defence techniques. Aaron Sir also pitched in, sharing some of his vast martial arts knowledge with the students and teaching them the basics of Capoeira. Amidst many laughs and fun with the Portuguese music, the students discovered important facts about their bodies and how to use them to their full potential.
Mindfulness, which has been introduced as a theme for Inventure this year, is another new concept that has been integrated into Inventuring. Each grade participated in a meditation session to understand the importance of mindfulness in their daily lives. Sanaaz Ma’am, one of the school counsellors, shared, “Although it is taking a while, things will pick up soon, especially since we’re introducing art and music therapy. We’ve received a lot of positive feedback and look forward to taking things ahead.” The students did reveal that they felt far more relaxed after, though a few quipped, “We were distracted by the pool and the sound of the water. It was so hot, we just wanted to jump right in!”
Kishen Sir, who has been very involved in the planning and coordination for Inventuring this year, zealously cheered the whole-hearted participation and cooperation this year across school. He particularly commended Nisha Ma’am and Humera Ma’am for the planning, and joked that he gives not one, not two, but three ‘thumbs up’s to everyone who has contributed. Kishen Sir isn’t the only one who harbours this excitement – as several students ascertained that the fun of Inventuring is limitless, and they are keenly anticipating the rest of the week, ending in none other than the most looked-forward-to night in an Inventure student’s year – the sleepover.
